Babylon 5 - Season One...

26/01/1994    Midnight on the Firing Line

When the Narn attack a Centauri colony, Londo and G'Kar nearly come to blows. Meanwhile, raiders are attacking transport ships near the station.  Executive producer Douglas Netter and costume designer Ann Bruce make cameos as president Louis Santiago and presidential candidate Marie Crane respectively. Paramount was offered the series and refused. However Star Trek Deep Space Nine was created shortly thereafter. Take away Jake Sisko and the series would be pretty much the same. Which has lead to friction between fans of both shows.  Straczynski was often asked by the cast how everything will end. He was just pointing out an encripted file on his computer, which should contain the whole story. He never told them about the box on his Desk, where he placed all the story handwritten on some papers. The cast could just have walked in and take look at it, but they kept on trying to decode the file on the computer. Clever guy Straczynski is.  Regarding the DS9 comment - I've heard it many times, and my reaction is always the same - "HUH?" Yes, the base similarities between B5 and DS9 were likely a part of why Paramount turned down B5. But, aside from gross generalities, the two shows are quite disimilar. It's like saying that Lost In Space and ST: Voyager are the same, because they're both set on ships lost in space. They're both great series that happen to be about space stations.

02/02/1994    Soul Hunter

A badly damaged ship is brought into the station, and the strange alien inside is identified as a soul hunter - an immortal race who can sense death and supposedly steal someone's soul.

09/02/1994    Born to the Purple

Mary Woronov (Ko'Dath) Fabiana Udenio (Adira Tyree)

Londo's career is in jeopardy when a beautiful slave seduces him and steals a sensitive computer file. Garibaldi investigates an unauthorized use of a restricted communications channel.  Centauri law permits individuals to own Centauri slaves. Owners are legally responsible for the actions of their slaves. This appears to be a slave system of economics rather than of caste. According to Trakis, powerlessness and slavery is the fate of all Centauri who don't play the game of blackmail and backstabbing.  In this episode Mary Woronov is credited in the opening titles, instead of Caitlin Brown. Woronov was originally meant to be part of the regular cast, but was replaced because she couldn't handle the heavy prosthetics the role required.

16/02/1994    Infection

Dr. Franklin gets a visit from old friend and mentor, xenoarcheologist Dr. Hendricks. He wants Franklin's help to analyze hi-tech organic artifacts he found on a dead world. But the artifacts seem to have a will of their own, and start to manipulate Hendricks' assistant.  David McCallum's line about Martians wanting to talk to Dr. Franklin about the common cold is a homage to H. G. Wells' novel,"War of the Worlds". After humanity fails to stop the Martians, the smallest known lifeform on Earth succeeds in killing them: bacteria.

23/02/1994    The Parliament of Dreams

Julia Nickson (Catherine Sakai)

Sinclair's old flame, Catherine Sakai, arrives during a weeklong festival when humans and aliens demonstrate their religious beliefs. An old enemy sends an assassin to kill G'Kar.  This episode marks the first appearence of G'kar's attache Na'toth and Delenn's loyal assistant Lenier.

02/03/1994    Mind War

Julia Nickson (Catherine Sakai) Walter Koenig (Bester)

A rouge telepath with exceptional powers takes refuge on Babylon 5, and two PSI Cops arrive to capture him. Catherine Sakai heads to Sigma 957 to survey it for Quantium-40, ignoring G'Kar's grave warnings.  Bester's salute is a homage to cult TV series "The Prisoner".

09/03/1994    The War Prayer

A racist group is terrorizing non-humans on Babylon 5, stabbing and branding them. Meanwhile Londo has trouble with two young Centauri who wants to break tradition by ignoring their arranged marriages, and instead marrying for love

16/03/1994    And the Sky Full of Stars

Sinclair is kidnapped and interrogated by two men determined to prove he betrayed earth during the Battle of the Line.  The title of this episode is a reference to Sinclair's description of the Battle of the Line in the Gathering - "The sky was full of stars... and every star was an exploding ship. One of ours".

20/04/1994    Deathwalker

Na'Toth attacks an alien woman that has just arrived on the station, claiming that she is the Dilgar war criminal Jha'dur - known as Deathwalker. And Talia is hired by Kosh to oversee some rather strange negotiations.

27/04/1994    Believers

An alien couple comes to Dr. Franklin with their fatally ill son. The child could be cured by a simple operation, but the parents' religion specifically forbids it. Meanwhile Ivanova escorts a damaged star liner through raider territory.

04/05/1994    Survivors

There is an explosion in one of the fighter bays just days before the president is to visit Babylon 5. A dying man implicates Garibaldi, which is just what the head of presidential security wants to hear, as she blames him for her father's death.

11/05/1994    By Any Means Necessary

An accident in the docking bays stars a series of problems on Babylon 5, when a Narn freighter is destroyed and one of the workers is killed. The dock workers demand better conditions or they'll go on strike. And G'Kar has to get a replacement G'Quan-Eth plant for an important religious ceremony.

18/05/1994    Signs and Portents

Ed Wasser (Morden)

A Centauri noble comes to Babylon 5 to transport an important Centauri relic in Londo's possession back to the homeworld. And a mysterious man visits all the alien ambassadors asking them an unusual question.  Ed Wasser already had a small appearance in the pilot as part of the staff. When Lady Ladira is having her vision, one of the news items on the blue screen behind her reads: "Rolling Stones Farewell Tour".

25/05/1994    TKO

Garibaldi is surprised when an old friend comes to Babylon 5 to fight in the "Mutai" - a savage alien fighting arena. Meanwhile Ivanova has trouble dealing with her father's death.  The book Ivanova reads, "Writing Without a Net" by Harlan Ellison, is an autobiography he plans to write. After the episode was finished, he took the prop with him to a few conventions as joke, leading many people believe the book was already published.

06/07/1994    Grail

A man comes to Babylon 5 asking the alien ambassadors for information that can help him with his quest to find the Holy Grail, while a Downbelow gangster gives security problems by mindwiping all who oppose him.

13/07/1994    Eyes

Sinclair's decisions the last year catch up with him, when an internal affairs investigator arrives to test the crew's loyalty to Earth Force with the help of a telepath. And Lennier shows great interest in Garibaldi's attempt at assembling a 1990's motorcycle.  Jeffrey Combs from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine has a guest appearance

20/07/1994    Legacies

John Vickery (Neroon)

A Minbari war cruiser comes to Babylon 5 to display the body of a recently dead Minbari leader, while Ivanova and Talia battle for the fate of a young girl with newly discovered telepathic powers.

27/07/1994    A Voice in the Wilderness (Part 1)

Strange signals start coming from Epsilon 3, the planet below Babylon 5. A science ship is sent to investigate, but is fired upon by a defense system on the planet. Meanwhile Garibaldi worries about a lover he left back on Mars, when fighting breaks out there.

03/08/1994    A Voice in the Wilderness (Part 2)

Denise Gentile (Lise Hampton)

The situation heats up when an Earth Force heavy cruiser arrives to "protect earth's interests", and the fusion reactors on Epsilon 3 start going out of control, and may blow up the planet and Babylon 5.  The name of the ship "Hyperion" was a nod to the Lurker's Guide to Babylon 5 which was originally located at "hyperion.com".

10/08/1994    Babylon Squared

Denise Gentile (Lise Hampton)

Babylon 4 reappears at the same place it disappeared four years before, and Sinclair and Garibaldi lead an expedition to evacuate its crew. Meanwhile Delenn is summoned by the Grey council. They inform her that they have selected a new leader - her.

17/08/1994    The Quality of Mercy

Damian London (Centauri Senator)

Dr. Franklin investigates an unlicensed medical practitioner in Downbelow, while Londo takes Lennier for a tour of Babylon 5's seedier locales. And in the brig, a convicted murderer waits for his sentence to be carried out - the death of personality.

26/10/1994    Chrysalis

Julia Nickson (Catherine Sakai)

The Centauri are about to withdraw from a quadrant of space because the Narns are harassing them, when Londo gets an offer to take care of the problem. Meanwhile Garibaldi tries to find out what his informant stumbled upon that got him killed.  Michael J. Straczynski on Season 1 DVD: "Producer Douglas Netter played President Sandiago. First chance i had, I killed him off." The machine Delenn uses to morph herself can be seen on many occasions during the season. Mira Furlan herself didn't know what it means until she got the script for this epsiode.
